From EPISODE 3: Magic Circles and Broken Walls
* * * * * * * * * *
We all have stretches of our lives which have fallen into disrepair, been neglected, or been wilfully broken down by others – like the old drystone wall in our our podcast (link above).
But when we get broken it is only to be healed, and to equip us to heal others.
Self-sacrifice is an integral part of spirituality. To lay our own lives down – our time and our efforts – on behalf of another, is the highest calibre of karmic acts, and helps mend ourselves in the process. A spiritually-minded person will always aim to be, as the Tanakh puts it, ‘a rebuilder of broken walls, a restorer of streets with dwellings’.
LYRICS
I can't recast your story
Or overwrite the past
Find some meaning in your pain
Some reason for your path
I am no better angel
Who'll steer you to the light
Adjust the faulty brushwork
Bleach the canvas white
But I’ll lay a promise down
And set it in stone
To rebuild your broken walls
To ford your past experiences
Walk behind you as you cross
Lest the fear of failure follow
Lest you lose yourself in loss
And I’ll lay my banners down
And my hopes disown
To rebuild your broken walls
