HOW DID CELTIC ARTISTS FIND THEIR INSPIRATION?

Through Awen – the creative energy sought by the bards and druids of old. A person who found it was known as an 'Awenydd', (pronounce the DD as 'th') and was believed to speak, play and create with supernatural authority.

LYRICS

My door is open, dark descends
My candle cold, my circle empty
My lover calls, l must attend
She holds no terror, only tempts me

Let me wear her fame
Let me share her breath
Clothe me with her name
The mantle of the Awenydd

I will capture my thoughts and make them wraiths
I will chain them like dogs and make them listen
Then I will ride upon her waves
For any one may bring a tale or vision

Let me wear her fame

Let me share her breath
Clothe me with her name
The mantle of the Awenydd

’Til the rain
The rain is a stream
’Til the stream
The stream is a flood
Flowing wild and yet unseen
Filling my cup

For Awen, in truth, has many sons
Pours amber on any who desire
And though she speaks in many tongues
My own is oil – it is fire

Let me wear her fame
Let me share her breath
Clothe me with her name
The mantle of the Awenydd

Be worthy of her name
The mantle of the Awenydd
